George Berry 1990/ 91

Post by Orfyduckmag » 13 May 2020, 19:49

Good evening folks. Stoke fan here in peace.

Hope you are all well.

I'm currently writing a book (essentially a bunch of mini-biographies) about Stoke City players I've interviewed (I work on a Stoke fanzine) and I know that Berry spent the 90/ 91 at your place.

From what I can already gather:
-you lot got promoted to Division 3 and he scored a scruffy equaliser at Chesterfield which sealed the deal
- he scored a screamer at London Road( hard to imagine I have to say!) - any video footage of this???
- he played right-back a lot for you?

Does anyone have any other memories/ good things/ bad things to say about Berry's time with the Posh?

Stay safe and sound. Thanks in advance.

Orfy

If you haven't already discovered it there is a site called Up the Posh database.
https://www.uptheposh.com
where there is information about Posh players including George Berry https://www.uptheposh.com/people/2981/

Hopefully BrianPosh reads this as he would be the best person to remember George Berry.

Scored an absolute thunderbolt against Blackpool, always laughing/smiling and enjoying the game and the banter with supporters - complete hero for the Posh sealed with the Chesterfield "goal"...legend!!!!!

Great character, on and off the field. By the time he reached the lower leagues with us he had lost his wonderful, distinctive Afro that were his trademark!

A great character and one player who always gave 100%. It may take a few days, but can put something together for you.
After the Chesterfield game we called in a Public House on the way home and George plus three other players were already there having a drink, so we joined them

Remember that game well, scored a total screamer in front of the Moyes End in a 4-0 win

You could also try asking the question on Londonroad.net
https://londonroad.net/
https://www.londonroad.net/Forum
Although, to be honest, Brianposh is one of the few on there who would be of much help to you. But it's worth a try.

There is also a Facebook group called Loyal fans of Peterborough United that has a fair mix of both old and new fans where you may find some help

I'm sure he'd appreciate your contribution, my help was aimed at someone who might have footage, I wasn't aware you kept that sort of thing, sorry.
