Posh v Burton

Post by tonyp » 20 Nov 2019, 20:57

Toney's yellow card against Shrewsbury rules him out of this game.
Boyd might be back.
Ricky-Jade Jones could come on and score another goal.
This is a must win game.

Boyd has a small knee problem, not fit for next two games according to Fergie.

Thanks Brian. Shame about that. I was thinking of putting him in as a scorer for this game.

I know I've only been watching on iFollow or listening on radio scum, but I think that playing players out of position doesn't work. Woodyard is not a winger, Mason is not a central midfield player. If the manager can't trust either Reed or Woodyard in that central berth then surely he has to start with Barker, who looked the dog's dangly bits against Scum

He hasn't really played players out of position. Woodyard has been worth his weight in gold in recent games. He has not been playing as a winger but in midfield and has toughed it up well. Mason has been playing at the base of the diamond and has shown that he can do a job there. Fergie used him in that position when he was at Donny. He says it is no sleight against Reed but needed to see if he could still play that position and he has with good results.

(I saw what you did there btw!)

Ricky-Jade Jones is a wonderful prospect but I don't think Fergie is really ready to play him as a starter. His second goal for the club against Stevenage was heaven made for him as they were pouring forward trying to get an equaliser. Half the field opened up for him in an attacking position. Luckily this time Marcus did the right thing and passed the ball to him for a reasonably easy finish for the lad.

'There will be a minute’s silence in memory of former EFL chairman, local MP and club patron Lord Brian Mawhinney, who recently passed away at the age of 79. Representatives from his family will be pitch-side for the tribute.'

Posh will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league following a couple of defeats on the road, but haven’t lost at London Road since the opening weekend of the campaign.
Posh are still sweating on the fitness of a number of key personnel including Josh Knight ahead of the fixture with Nigel Clough’s men. Striker Ivan Toney is suspended after reaching five yellow cards for the season so teenage front man Ricky-Jade Jones could be handed his first start in the Football League.

On May 4th last season Posh 3-1 Burton Albion
Attendance: 9,019 (598 Burton fans)

For tomorrow's game Burton had sold just under 100 tickets at 5pm on Thursday.
I don't see this match being a big drawcard for Posh fans either the way they seem to have been supporting Posh lately.

From the Peterborough Telegraph
https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/spo ... -1-9148733

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony was asked on social media whether or not Jones should play against Burton.

He replied: “I don’t pick the team, but his pace is a constant threat and his work ethic is impressive so I wouldn’t lose sleep over him playing a run of games.

Jones is now expected to make his Football League debut in tomorrow’s League One clash against Burton Albion at London Road.

And so he did. Even though the BBC are still calling him Jade-Jones.

Substitution, Peterborough United. Siriki Dembélé replaces Ricky Jade-Jones.
And that's the spelling on the Official site as well.
