It is true Tony, Sir Kier Starmer, a knight of the realm no less, and although I know very little about Labour policy I would suggest he can't do a worse job than the last incumbent
I'm pleased he was selected, best candidate by far.

I think developments recently has shown that socialist policies are the best way forward for any developed country.

Our government-run NHS employs people with vital skills honed in our state schooling system, with contributions from their earnings used to pay for the elderly for their state pension. Private sector workers & businesses are being at least partially funded by the state to see them through the bad times & in due course they will make this up in their tax contributions.

Private sector businesses who often dodge taxes are now running to the state to help them out, as the capitalist system crumbles. Just look at the private US healthcare system where there's bidding wars better rival companies for ventilators and decisions aren't made for the greater good.

Members on here like Bristle seem to be staunchly against socialism but I don't understand why. An explanation would be interesting, it'd be good to hear a different slant on things.

This thread is called Members of Parliament.
It has been reported in Australia that the UK parliament has a new leader of the opposition.
Is this true?
Who is it?

IF he becomes Prime Minister one day will he be the first knight of the realm to be a Labour pm? Apart from Walpole he could even be the first knight to be prime minister of any party before becoming pm.

I'll ask on ABC radio talk back. I'll let you know.
I'm getting UK information on the radio in Brisbane before reading about it on this message board.
Not the way it used to be.

Not really true. Alec Douglas Home was a Lord when he became PM> He then renounced his peerage and continued as PM as Sir Alec Douglas Home

Well done PoshCynic.
On behalf of Bristleposh I rang ABC radio talkback. One listener suggested Sir Alec because, even though he wasn't called Sir Alec when he became PM, he was actually knighted about a year before.
