Coronavirus and footballers

Post by Poshay » 28 Feb 2020, 21:58

Will the choreographed hand shaking and man hugging currently the vogue with pro soccer teams be banned in the near future to try to stop the onward march of the disease? Society in general is nowadays so touchy feely compared to when I was brought up it's no surprise the virus is spreading so quickly. We are already seeing some international matches being postponed but on the field activity hasn't changed yet. Any ideas?

Coronavirus

Post by bristleposh » 01 Mar 2020, 23:19

I have a great idea...
Well, at least the media think so...
Everyone should work from home, I suppose it's easy if you work in an office, but what about if you work on the checkout at Tesco, change tyres at a garage, or build cars. Not everybody can work from home, so unless the whole country closes down, it ain't gonna work. Police, Fire Service, Hospital staff ???

People have to work from home if they can. Anything to help stop spreading it.
I think football could also be affected very soon & any other large public gatherings.
Makes sense surely

I was simply pointing out the in feasibility of some people’s situation. I have no doubt the mass media are unaware of the situation that even their newspapers can’t be printed and distributed if everyone stayed at home.

I didn't read it like that to be fair.

I read it that you should work from home if you can.

If 25% of the workforce stopped travelling it would help contain it. Apparently, after the end of March, & warmer weather returns, it can't live in those conditions anyway. Japan have closed everything down until the end of March - makes sense for the sake of a month.

I see that Steve Bruce has imposed a ban on handshaking at Newcastle United's matches. A small step in the right direction?

Brad Hazzard, the New South Wales health minister, advised people not to shake hands and instead give each other a pat on the back. “I won’t say don’t kiss” he said, “but you could be exercising a degree of care and caution with whom you choose to kiss.”
He didn't mention football but Aussie Rules players are not known for kissing!!

Our footballers in this country are forever in full on snogging sessions with each other, but not in a gay way

According to the BBC
"Scottish footballers & staffs told not to shake hands"
Scottish footballers, staff and officials have been asked not to shake hands as part of authorities attempts to reduce the spread of coronavirus.

A circular was sent to clubs requesting the reduction of person-to-person contact as per Scottish Government guidelines.

It was implemented "immediately", starting with Tuesday's Edinburgh derby at Easter Road.

In Australia (this is not a joke).
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... -heres-why
Coronavirus: Woolworths moves to ration toilet paper as panic buying empties shelves.
toiletpaper is all the talk online despite experts warning there is no need to stockpile as coronavirus cases increase in Australia
On Wednesday, the company announced it had “moved to apply a quantity limit on toilet paper packs,” limiting customers to four per purchaser to “ensure more customers have access to the products”.

Also on Wednesday the Australian recycled toilet paper company Who Gives a Crap announced it had completely sold out of stock. In a statement headlined “holy crap” the company said that “panic buying madness” had exhausted its supplies.

Aghast shoppers have been tweeting pictures of empty shelves in supermarkets where row upon row of toilet paper once sat, and with it Twitter has been having some fun.

Anne Stubbs
The world’s gone mad! 3 supermarkets - no toilet roll! Last I heard #coronavirus causes a flu-like illness not wild, explosive diarrhoea! 😳Scored possibly the last pack in the whole of Brisbane! Might put it on eBay! 😂 #panicbuying #coronavirusaustralia #toiletpaper

I am guessing by a lot of news stores, if you get Corona Virus you are in danger of shitting yourself to death?

I’ve got a 9 pack that I’ll sell to the highest bidder. It’s 3 ply and very soft. I need a house deposit so start high. 😀 #toiletpaper

Ever since it was brought to my attention that you can say “Covid-19” to the tune of “Come on, Eileen,” I’ve been unable to read it any other way

Good suggestion for season ticket holders-
"No idea what’s going to happen but I’m not a fan of stilling our league and if necessary we should play out fixtures & beam games to season ticket holders for free if allowed. Hopeful for best outcome".
