Not somebody I’ve listened to, but because of your recommendation I will take the time, always shocking when someone dies so despite not knowing him may he RIP

If you haven't heard him before now then everybody should listen to john prine who died yesterday

Probably the best singer song writer to have emerged since 1970
And from the acceptable end of country music
Listen to Sam stone, paradise ,souvenirs, hello in there, angel from montgomery , in spite of ourselves and so many more

Revered by dylan, cash, kristofferson,Baez Springsteen nd so many more

He will touch to you tears one time and make you laugh the next

Undoubtedly one of the best

I first saw him at the cambridge folk festival with steve Goodman in 1973 or 74
very nice too, not my normal type of listening but I like anything that is good and that certainly is.

Superb guitar picking, wonderful lyrics but very affected 'country' voice ala so many of his contemporaries. Makes my ears squeak!
I have followed him for almost 50 years and it has never struck me that his voice was affected. Perhaps I have listened to his lyrics too much.
Dylan's voice was also "affected " (ie not his natural way ) but again I followed the lyrics more than anything else

perhaps in mitigation,I will say that In the last 25 years he has had two major major bouts of cancer surgery, (the first one took away most of his neck and throat!), then a good go at his lung (which probably contributed to his Covid 19 death) and his voice became much gravelllier and raspier., almost to the point of being difficult to hear the words,

I never thought of him as "Country ", he was far far too good for that, but he was always well accepted into their bosom

We will need to agree to differ on his voice. I hope your ears recover

For me, he was amongst the best of all time

Hello in there, John.
Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello"

Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more
She sits and stares through the back door screen
And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen

Rest in Peace John Prine

I assume you don’t usually go to “just for fun” but I’ve started a music game you may like to join in with

Certainly one of my favourites but I have dozens of them because he had a humanist and humourous way of writing

But sam stone is still one of my all time favourites

Found a downloadable version of 'How to Kill a Butterfly' by Band of Holy Joy.

Now added it to my Apple Music collection & listening whilst working.

One of my favourite albums...ever.
