Championship Football

Post by dunc » 27 May 2020, 11:50

There are a number of teams towards the lower end of the current Championship table who hope that League 1 votes to end their season prematurely, so that they can vote to ensure that when the Championship season is played to a conclusion there will be no relegation to League 1 and likewise no promotion from League 1.

Self interest is the prime motivating factor for every football club - irrespective of the league they play in. That will never change.

Championship to start on 20th June, surely as we have the same number of fixture left we could start then too

It would be great to think that a full restart might happen ...........
but with the EFL deciding to leave voting by the clubs so late - surely there won't be time for all clubs to reach playable standards.
It would be simpler to reduce the number of games needed to be played by only having the top 11 teams, (ie. those with a realistic chance of the playoffs) required to play each other. This reduces the games needed to play and therefore the time needed to play them. Any other games would be forfeited, awarding a 2-goal win to the team not able to fulfill its fixture. The maximum games left to play for each team would be 6 (Rotherham), whereas Posh would only have 2 games left to play. (Especially as the EFL dont think we would make the playoffs!)
