Music Peterborough have run out to

Post by joeheadland » 27 Feb 2020, 09:53

Hello everyone,

I hope this okay to post here – if not, moderators please move or delete as appropriate.
I’m part of a team at the University of Sheffield, led by Dr Chris Stride. We’ve published a number of academic papers and magazine articles relating to football history, on subjects such as statues and replica shirts (see, for example sportingstatues.com, and https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10 ... 19.1578255).

Our current project is investigating the music that football teams have run or walked out of the tunnel to over the years.

We are looking for the music that Peterborough have run out to for as
many seasons in the past as you can recall. We are simply interested in
the title of the song, the artist who recorded it, and for which seasons
Peterborough ran out to this. Any help you can give us to
piece together the different songs that your club has run out to would
be hugely appreciated.

If you have any personal anecdotes around the reasons for the songs
being used, or the changes between them, that would also be fantastic.

I should also add that we are not interested in goal music, or a song
that is played at the final whistle, but just the song that is on the
tannoy system as the players enter the field.

If you think someone else may be able to help, or you have any
questions, please let us know! We would be very happy to discuss the
project.

Thanks for your time,

Joe Headland

Post Horn Gallop (pre-dates Leicester City doing it if you ask us)

For a few seasons it was Wake Up by Arcade Fire but it didn't catch on.

I only ever remember Post Horn Gallop right back in the fifties.
Although not having been to many did we not come out to an Adele track at one time?

If we're looking for a noo toon I think Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon or All Star by Smash Mouth

I think I'd rather have Welcome Home by Peters & Lee

I agree to a certain extent. I was also brought up on it. Since those heady days it has been tried several times and in reality it hasn't meant a thing to most of today's fans.
If they could get a top notch recording of the PHG and really blast it out over the address system then it might just work but while we have a system that DMac refuses to improve then it really becomes a non starter.

The Club kindly put on a spare disc the copy they/ I have now. If you go online there are approx.10-12 versions in the one place including the full whack at an Official Military dinner. Magnificent.

Thanks for this everyone. I'm a younger Posh fan myself, and I must confess to sadly having no idea of the connection between us and PHG. Terrible! However, I would be all for it's return.

Can anyone remember the last time it was regularly used, roughly?

And.... Did anyone hear it at the Pompey match? I couldn't be there, but know for a fact my old man was proudly singing the Last Waltz.
