Posh v Portsmouth

Post by tonyp » 01 Mar 2020, 09:23

On 15 September 2018 Posh suffered the first league defeat of the 2018/2019 season as Portsmouth were 2-1 winners.
Posh: Chapman, Naismith, Daniel, Woodyard, Tafazolli, O’Hara (sub Walker 65min), Godden, Dembele, Ward (sub Maddison 71min), Bennett, Cummings (sub Toney 58min). Unused subs: Tyler, Reed, Cooper, Yorwerth, Maddison.
Attendance 10,472 (2,513 Portsmouth fans).
Portsmouth and Posh will both be looking to win this game.
A win for us would put us above Portsmouth in the table.
A win for them could put them in the top two.
In other words it's a must win for the Posh.
Unfortunately I think it's more likely to be another draw with close on 12,000 attending.

It's only a must win if we want automatic promotion.
If we only manage a draw we can still make the playoffs.
Anybody else?

You're correct Tony.

I think 8 wins & 2 draws (26 points) would have us in the automatics (including beating promotion rivals).

However, something like 18-20 points (5 wins, 3 draws, 2 defeats) could be enough for the play-offs, so therefore yes, a draw would do against Portsmouth for that.

Anything short of automatics is a failure for me this season.

Never mind DMac! It'll save you money on sorting out the London Road stadium ready for Championship football next season - bolt on seats in London Road or closing it down and seating London Roaders elsewhere?

We’ll surely abandon the bolt on seats now that we’re having a new stadium. The expense seems pointless for such a short time?

So we will all get lumped into one of the other three stands!
Who wants that? We may get dispensation to keep London Road as it is for a couple of seasons or until the new stadium is up and running. Hopefully that will come to pass.

From the Portsmouth News
Portsmouth fans to travel en masse to important promotion clash with Peterborough
At present, Pompey will be backed by nearly 2,300 fans for their important League One visit to Peterborough.
It will represent the Blues’ second-biggest away attendance of the season, with 5,083 making the December 29 trip to MK Dons.

The game will see Kenny Jackett’s third-placed side looking to cement their automatic promotion credentials and at the same time deal another blow to Posh’s aspirations.
Well, nearly 2,301 people at the ground will be disappointed. (the extra one is Gaz. )

Fantastic win and Gillingham with a last minute equalizer doing us a huge favor...Dembele and Toney outstanding and I thought Joe Ward had a terrific game as well. We restricted Portsmouth to a few chances albeit a bit last ditch on a couple of occasions...really enjoyed that
